چکیده

2 Purpose of the method The dfc-method is intended for the selective derivation of test cases from a formal description of the system under test (SUT). The targetted selective derivation is based on the analysis of the input-output (I/O) relations in a given specification for exposing the effects of each input interaction on those output interactions which are influenced by the input interaction. Such effects are identified by tracking variables through the specification of the SUT, following them as they are modified, until they are ultimately used to compute values for other variables. The method requires that each of these effect is examined at least once during testing. The intuition behind the selective derivation of test cases based on the coverage of effects of inputs on outputs (i.e. I/O-functionality) is that faults in a system may lead to incorrect values and, as the result of propagation through computations, an error may show up at the output of the SUT.

Relating Architecture and Specification

The problems of multiple specification languages for multiple architectures are discussed. It is concluded that an architectural semantics is of practical value in ensuring consistent and effective development of specifications. The approach is discussed in general and by examples, concentrating mainly on an architectural semantics for Open Systems Interconnection in relation to ESTELLE, LOTOS ...

On the Introduction of Exceptions in E-LOTOS

The advantages of exception handling are well-known and several sequential or parallel programming languages provide exception handling mechanisms. Unfortunately, none of the three standardized Formal Description Techniques (Estelle, Lotos, and Sdl) supports exceptions. In 1992, Quemada and Azcorra pointed out the need for structuring protocol descriptions with exceptions and proposed to extend...

Specifications of a Simplified Transport Protocol Using Different Formal Description Techniques

Formal description techniques have been developed for the specification of OSI communication protocols and services, and can also be used as specification langnages for other application areas. This paper presents two complete example specifications of a simplified Transport protocol (class 2) written in Estelle and LOTOS, and the outline of a similar specification in SDL. These examples are of...

Derivation of Test Cases for LAP-B from a LOTOS Specification

A semi-formal method for deriving test cases from specifications in LOTOS is described. The method is applied to the LAP-B standard, for which a complete LOTOS specification was developed. Execution trees are derived from the specification by using an interpreter, and test cases are obtained by inspection. The results of our experiment compare favorably with the ones obtained in an earlier work...
